President’s Corner – September/October 2024

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I also hope those members who own Corvette
Convertibles are leaving the tops up and the A/C on high.

Occasionally, I browse the Club Newsletters from other SE Region Corvette Clubs, and they are
all talking about the same thing…………the Weather. It is hard to avoid the extremely hot weather and the record-breaking high temperatures that have stood for close to 100 years.

I wanted to remind everyone to be very careful in the heat of the day and if you can avoid being outside in the middle of the day, please do so. As someone who previously experienced sunstroke, I can tell you it is scary stuff. Drink lots of fluids and take frequent breaks. 

I hope everyone took some time to read the last issue of Tire Smoke. A shout-out to our newest Journalist, Erick Goin. I thought Erick’s first issue in his new role was outstanding. I hope you did also.

Erick is bringing many of his ideas to the newsletter including a new feature where he interviews members, exploring how they came to buy their first Corvette, their previous careers, and background and more as human interest stories. Now for a little bit of NCC Club Business:
I’d like to remind everyone that with this year going by so quickly, the annual Club Officer Elections will be here very soon. Each Board Member according to our Club Bylaws must be elected each calendar year regardless if they are currently holding office or are a new Officer nominee. We will also be asking members for nominations for the Annual Sue McGee Award.

To be eligible for the Sue McGee Award, the Club Member must be in good standing and devoted his /her time, energy, and resources to the betterment of the Club. The award honors someone who has made consistently significant contributions to the Club and someone who promotes the Club in a positive way to the surrounding community and to the Corvette community as a whole. The nominee must not have been the recipient of the Award in the past 5 years.

The results of the vote on election night are kept confidential and announced at the Annual Club Christmas Party.

The first round of 2025 C.Y. nominations for the five Club Board Positions and nominations for the Sue McGee Award will take place at the September Club Meeting scheduled for Monday, September 9th at 7:00 PM.

The second round of nominations will be conducted at the Club Meeting on Monday October 14th at 7:00 PM.

Monday night November 11 th is Election night and all Club Members in good standing (have paid their 2025 Club Dues) will cast their ballot for the five 2025 C.Y. Club Officers (Board Members). Members will also vote for one of the Sue McGee Award nominees.

As always, I encourage our members to volunteer and agree to be nominated for one of the Staff/ Board Positions. It takes a group of people to keep our club growing and help organize our many activities and club business throughout the year.

As I stated earlier, we anticipate a few Staff openings for 2025. We also will be accepting nominations for all 5 Board/Officer positions. We encourage individuals to step forward and agree to be nominated for one of the Board positions and have their name placed on the ballot. We need a few changes on the Board each year to bringing individual new thoughts and ideas. Volunteering to serve the Club is the only way the Club will continue to grow and operate and still be around for another 50 Years! Give us a little of your time.
